"As We May Think"

The basis of this blog is my thoughts on a reading I was directed to undertake from my lecturer.
The article was called "As We May Think" and it appears on TheAtlantic.com which seems to be some sort of online magazine, or an online version of a magazine.

Here is some of the points I discovered while reading this article,
1. Many important inventions have come into existence because of the war.
2. Over the past few centuries mass production has become possible and all kinds of things can be produced with economy of effort and also of high quality.
3. If the plans for certain machines, such as the car or the fridge were brought to a Pharaoh, read, and understood, they may have been built thousands of years ago. Despite the fact that huge taxing and a work force would be required to produce each of the thousands of parts needed for just one car.
4. Current technologies, especially in the area of recording moments (cameras, video cameras etc) aren't really developing new technologies, but the current technologies are being rapidly improved to a point beyond belief.

Lecture 1: What is Networked Media?

This was our first lecture. As I read through the notes I was interested to find out a few things:

1. Old forms of media (TV, print, press) are becoming more and more outdated, and less profitable. This is disheartening as these are the areas I'm aiming to be employed in.
2. I should spend 10 hours per week working on this subject. Well, I've pretty much failed that. I might spend 10 hours thinking about sitting down and working for this subject but somehow never just start working.
3. I will become an active networked media participant.
4. Most media is made of Text, Images, and Sound, or a combination of the three.
5. This subject is about "Networked Media" being a message sent between 2 or more people which isn't face-to-face, therefore, the internet. :)
6. The history of the internet, again. *painful memories of past unit come to surface of mind*
7. The internet is good because it allows us to collaborate ideas.

So these are the points that I gathered from the first lecture.
I'm keen to revisit the rest of the lecture notes and turn my blog into something impressive.

Today I decided to start from the bottom of the icelab website and catch up on all the blog posts that I've missed. It should take a while but I feel that I can't submit my exhibition until I'm up to date.

So my aim is to post as many responses to the lectures and readings as possible in the next few days.

Hey my name is Alasdair Bednall and this is my first post for my new blog. It's a requirement for one of my subjects at the University of Canberra in Australia.

But who am I?
<---- Well I study a course in media/multimedia production and I'm planning on becoming a director of music video clips/short film. I help my friend work at Wo lf Performance where we specialize in the customizing of Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars.

I also play a lot of basketball at least 3-4 times per week. My favourite team is the San Antonio Spurs which I've been following since about 2000. My favourite player is Manu Ginobili.

Over the last 6 months I've developed a taste for photography and I regularly take pictures for my flickr page.

I chose to use blogger because it looked like it was the most aesthetically pleasing and easy to manipulate of the blog sites I looked at. I also like how it had little programs such as slideshow and blog list which will come in handy later as i develop my blog.
